Coming Soon: SR to Release E-mail Exchanges ... (Not so fast...)

Friday at IHOP. In response to any question about Your Huckleberries Hound, he's been instructed to respond: Dave, who? Or, how about them e-mails?

*I almost missed this one: Poynter Online posted a story recently that I missed re: whether this blog, and the SR did U.S. Sen. Larry Craig a disservice by posting unsubstantiated allegations by gay activist Mike Rogers that Craig is gay. Rogers has never backed up the claims he made on a national radio program, and the story died. You can read the Poynter post here.

*A Berry Picker re: HBO's use of the term KCSO for the sheriff's office: It hasnt been KCSO since Pierce Clegg was in office. Kootenai County Sheriffs Department. KCSD. (DFO: Oops ... How about KCPC: Kootenai County Porn Central?)

*Spectator re: Steve Smith's confirmation of the expense to pursue the Douglas/Kalani email trail: That's exactly why the CDA Press will never break stories like these.

Health Department kick-starts immunization drive

ST. CROIX - The V.I. Health Department on Thursday announced the launching of its "Take Your Best Shot" campaign aimed at increasing local immunization rates among adolescents and encouraging adults to also get immunized for once common illness, some of which experts say are re-emerging.

Health Commissioner Vivian Ebbesen-Fludd said there had been talks in the past of boosting immunization among children ages 11 to 18, but those plans never got off the ground. Last month's outbreak of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, at a private school on St. Croix spurred the department in to action.

Health officials said Thursday that the Country Day School students who were infected with pertussis were mostly the older children who had not been immunized with the new vaccine.

Reviews: Preschool to Grade 4

This story exposes the value many children place on wearing the same cool clothing as or fitting in with the in-crowd; however, a message of generosity shines through when Jeremy gives his prized sneakers to a friend in need who has smaller feet. Illustrations done in pencil, ink, and watercolors effectively depict the grays and browns of the wintertime inner-city setting, the institutional greens and blues of the school, and the warm hues of this African-American home. The characters' faces, drawn with thin lines, wide-set eyes, and a variety of skin tones, are expressive. A poignant, thought-provoking book.—Kirsten Cutler, Sonoma County Library, CA

Angus steer that got loose outside Cincinnati shot and killed

After eluding the traps and tranquilizer darts of SPCA officials and police officers for 11 days, she was finally captured just after midnight Feb. 26 in Clifton, Ohio.

She had become such a celebrity that she was spared from the slaughterhouse. In late March, 2002, Max offered $180,000 worth of his paintings to the SPCA for use at their next auction.

In return, he wanted custody of the cow, whom he named to commemorate not only her dramatic pursuit of liberty, but the city into which she escaped.
