| Terrorism as regressive globalisation
It may never be possible to eliminate these new groups, but it might be possible to reduce their recruiting power and to minimise the damage they are able to inflict. If the aim is to reduce the insecurities that provide a breeding ground for extreme ideologies, then such a strategy ultimately amounts to a global agenda for progressive governance. But it is possible to draw out some more specific strands of policy. First of all, such a strategy has to involve the protection of civilians and the capture and arrest of criminals responsible for violence in order to deal with the immediate risks. And this applies to all forms of illegal violence (war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, massive violations of human rights, as well as private crime) not just terrorism. But it is important that countering violence is treated as law enforcement not war.

ORIENT couldn't prevent Walsall from extending their unbeaten league run to 17 games, but did enough to hold on for a vital away point. The Sadlers had the better of the chances throughout, although the O's looked much more solid again at the back. In a first half short on serious goal chances the hosts almost took a lucky lead on 20 minutes, when an Adam Chambers' clearance almost cannoned off Scott Dann into the net. Stuart Nelson was then forced into his first real action when he saved Lee Holmes shot. There was little improvement after the break as the sides cancelled each other out, although the best chance of the second period fell Walsall's way on 64 minutes. A fine cross by Holmes from the left presented Darren Wrack with a golden opportunity in front of goal, but he somehow failed to hit the target with his header.

The 81-year-old also touched on the upcoming presidential campaign. "During this election year, I think we ought to change the name of The White House to The Black House," Rogers said, referring to the candidacy of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, a black man vying for the Democratic presidential nomination. Rogers spoke for only five minutes, but Lane College President Wesley C. McClure said his message was poignant. "This tall, great man didn't offer many words, but he said a whole lot," McClure said following Rogers' speech. A few Lane College students echoed McClure's sentiments. "It was an honor to be in his presence," said Mark Rogers, Lane College student body president. "It's always a pleasure to see legends talk about their life stories and roads less traveled." Mark Rogers said he's concerned about the challenges facing his generation, such as young black adults who do not vote, pursuing a college education and standing together for racial equality.
Tennis: Witten's Swingtime title to be shown on Sun Sports starting ...
When you are ranked over 200 in the world and participating in an event with names like Chris Evert, Mardy Fish, Todd Martin and Jimmy Arias, you don't expect to be the one grabbing all the attention. That is just what happened to Jesse Witten, a Lely High School graduate and the No. 219 ranked player in the world. Originally scheduled to help out with the tennis pro-am at Swingtime -- A Pro-Celebrity Pro-Am Tennis & Golf Tournament -- Benefiting the Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation, the 25-year-old Witten moved up to headliner to face the world's No. 39 ranked player, Fish, when Xavier Malisse pulled out of the event due to injury. After a fairly even match, Witten won the last five games to claim the Swingtime Title with a score of 6-3. “It is always tough to beat someone in their hometown," said Fish.

JAQUITTA'S JOURNEY: Read Her Blog
I have some strong peach fuzz going on all over my head. I'm told by March I should have a respectable amount, so come on MARCH!! My weight is still holding steady, Dr. Goddett wants me to hang onto it; she says that since my body is fighting the radiation and getting rid of the bad cells and rejuvenating the good cells my body needs to stay strong to continue to fight. Good news though, she did say I could work out, but just make sure I listen to my body and don't over do it. She did mention I would at some point begin to feel tired or fatigued and would need to take a nap. She suggested probably by week 3. We'll see. Happy New Year! Enjoy this Life that you have the good the bad... all of it! I know I will. Love and Live Your Life JaQuitta! ******************************************************************************************************* 12/27 It's finally happened after all the hot flashes, being super hot and then back to normal, sweating, you name it.
