| School board weighs expulsions over MySpace photos
The Van Buren Public Schools Board met into the night today hearing testimony as members discussed whether to uphold the expulsions of four students who posted photos of themselves on MySpace.com with what appeared to be drugs, weapons and gang signs. After 10 p.m., five hours after the meeting began, the attorneys representing the school districts and the parents questioned Superintendent Pete Lazaroff Jr., the third witness presented by attorneys for the administration. .
Brisbane blogger spreads school smut
SHE'S bitchy, biting, sarcastic and spiteful and she has taken cyber bullying to new heights with a website that is terrorising students at Brisbane's elite private schools. She is Gossip Girl Brisbane and her MySpace blog, created this month, already has attracted 470 users keen to use the site to denounce their peers with salacious details about their sexual orientation, drug problems, love lives and health woes. Forget scribbling gossip on the back of the toilet door at school, it's now out there for millions of web users to view. Gossip Girl does not name the girls she says are pregnant or the teens she says have had sex. She uses initials to indicate the person she is talking about. The blog, which is updated daily, mirrors the Fox 8 program Gossip Girl, in which the identity of Gossip Girl remains a secret and everyone relies on her website for the latest scoop.
Visiting Au Pairs Help Bring Germany To SBHS
Two of Stone Bridge High School's German classes got a lesson on Germany from some nationals Wednesday. Three women, who are in Loudoun working as au pairs for a year, sat with the classes for an hour and answered questions about what life was like in Germany and how it differed from the U.S. Students got the women's thoughts on everything from music and food to the popularity of MySpace and what teens do for fun on the weekends."It's nice to get to know other cultures and be able to tell them about Germany," Julia Wurm, 19, who takes care of two children in Ashburn, said. "It's good for us, too, because we get to know what it's like in German classes in American schools."The visit was the idea of Teresa Breitenthaler, Stone Bridge's German teacher. Breitenthaler got in contact with Kathleen Schultz, who is the local coordinator for au pairs in the area."There are very few opportunities for the kids to use their German skills," Breitenthaler said.
Dengue cases go up to 11
The city, with its numerous slums, was virtually waiting for an epidemic to break out. Residents of Old Panchkula were particularly worried about their fate and the inadequacy with which the Health Department had been dealing with pools of stagnant water right under their noses. Fuming was carried out a fortnight back by the department. Since then, we have not had any visit by Health Department teams. The condition in the market is particularly bad because we are here practically all day and cannot escape mosquito bite, said a resident. The Chief Medical Officer, General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, Dr G.P. Saluja, said they had sent 15 samples to the PGI for testing. Of these, we have been told that nine have tested positive for dengue. Three are negative and the report of three others is awaited, he stated.
Grown-ups have long way to go to rival teens' technology grasp
In type that scrolls up the screen like the preface for Star Wars, a YouTube video reads, "For years, parents could not text message. They could not figure out how to record a voice mail. They could not even connect to the Internet without using AOL." .
Daniel Rubin: A frostiness replaces hugs
Jennifer Horvay knew something had changed as soon as she arrived for the second shift at the Wawa. No hugs. Usually, she can't take a few steps inside the convenience store at Castor and Solly in Northeast Philadelphia without coworkers throwing their arms around her in the sort of embrace that makes starting her eight-hour turn in the deli a delight. These aren't your fake hugs and air kisses, she says. They're the real, back-patting "Hey, how are you?" hugs, the hearty "glad-to-see-you" squeezes. They've been a tradition among friends who work at this Wawa going on seven years. "Almost all of the employees at this particular store are admitted huggers," Horvay said the other day. But not everyone. Last week, she says, she sensed an unfamiliar cool in the place that considers itself the Cheers of convenience chains.
Republican rivals open final assault in Florida
LOOK AT US NOW.. We women or most of us resent being put in the closet until people like you are ready to let us out. I stand up for my right's as an american and a woman. and I will vote Hillary. and I also agree Bill should take a break and control his mouth and temper. Yes he should back up his wife, but in the right manner. Every man who is a man should stand up for their woman. But i think the women are having to fight their husbands battles. AWWW Shame on you. I do think it is time for change. But Obama has not told us WHAT CHANGE. sorry I can't vote on that. But don't matter who it is they all give us hope and promises they don't keep. And why is it gay men can serve their country, as long as it is secret, But why can't gay women. I saw that on the commentary last night. could it be because you men feel we haven't earned our rights yet.
August 2006 Archives
Here are my random thoughts while I'm watching the VMA pre-show. Hopefully some of you are watching along and will post your comments too... 7:17: Glad Nick Lachey decided to get dressed up with his Hanes undershirt. (Is he the newest celeb in those "Look who we got our Hanes on now" ads?) But with those baby blues, does it even matter what he's wearing? Not so much. 7:18: Kurt Lowder still works for MTV? Didn't he like found that channel or something? 7:24: Marilyn Monroe , Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera arrived! I love watching the girls try to get out of the superhigh SUVs in their tight dresses. Better them than me. 7:29: Jennifer Lopez looks like a mummy -- wrapped head to toe. Truth be told, she is so glam. I could never pull most of that off.
