Oil prices rise on expectations the Fed will cut rates, OPEC will not ...

Oil prices rose despite predictions of rising U.S. oil supplies, with traders focusing on expectations the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates later Wednesday and OPEC will not raise its output this week.

"There's possibly some anticipation over the Fed's likely rate cut," said David Moore, a commodity strategist with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in Sydney.

The U.S. central bank cut interest rates sharply last week, and is expected to cut rates again Wednesday. Energy investors hope the moves by the Fed and a planned stimulus package from the U.S. Congress will limit damage to the economy of the world's largest oil consumer.

Light, sweet crude for March delivery added 91 cents to US$92.55 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange by midday in Europe.

Nora Mae, a lady of many talents

Nora Mae Fox, a native of Todd County, was a lady of many talents and abilities, all freely shared with the community she loved. She graduated from the public schools of Elkton and received some of her musical education from Sherwood College, but most of it was God given and she knew that and was more than generous in her sharing with others.Nora Mae did many things for the good of the community, most all of them were musically inspired. She played for all of the civic clubs, was organist at Petrie Memorial United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years, missing only one service in all of that time and that included choir practice on Wednesday evenings, practicing with soloists at their convenience, not hers, and playing for countless weddings and probably more funerals, because people from all over the county requested that she play for their celebrations of life. She also taught music in the local schools and formed a band, known as "The Little Foxes." A great many of her band members came to her with little or no musical background, but when they graduated, they knew a good bit about music, and all the extras musical education provides — the necessity of paying attention, listening to others, sharing with those around you and a certain stage presence.

Of Tattoos, Naps and iPods in the Office

The gloves that Susan Little wears each winter were a Christmas gift from her husband in 1965. Now, many of the employees who work for Little in the student financial aid office at the University of Georgia are far younger than her gray and navy blue hand warmers, and as a manager, she regularly confronts issues raised by the generation gap.

Friday wild card

Oh well, there's still today, Saturday, Sunday and ... Tuesday. I'll be back breaking big rocks into little rocks on Monday in my corner office of the second floor. Blogmeister KenP'll need a break by then, if he doesn't already need one now. Speaking of Blogmeister KenP, how about a standing O for him out there, for keeping the blog going during my va-cay? Now, onto the Wild Card ...
