Jindal nominates 3 for education board
John L. Bennett, the longtime principal of St. Aloysius Catholic School, was appointed to the state’s top school board Tuesday by Gov. Bobby Jindal. Jindal’s other selections to the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education are: Penny Dastugue, of Mandeville, who just finished a four-year term as an elected member. Tammie A. McDaniel, of Oak Ridge, a former principal and teacher who also worked as a northeast Louisiana campaign strategist for Jindal in last year’s race for governor. All three are Republicans, like the governor. All three names are also subject to Senate confirmation. Jindal said his three picks were not required to pledge support for charter schools and other forms of school choice. "We didn’t have any litmus test," he said.
Ashley Tisdale Gets a Nose Job
As a result of the operation, Ashley isn't feeling her best. Let's hope boyfriend Jared Murillo is bringing her a lot of chicken soup. "I'm not feeling great today. It's uncomfortable and I hope this is the only time I ever have to go through something like this." Tisdale's mother, Lisa, was by her side during the five-hour procedure. Still, Tisdale says, every step of the way "I was completely scared. I wasn't looking forward to the surgery at all. I actually had trouble sleeping for a week before." The cute and talented Ashley Tisdale was also quick to point out that she doesn't advocate plastic surgery for vanity's sake: "I didn't do this because I believe in plastic surgery. I did this to help my health. I literally almost could not breathe out of the right side of my nose.

Scots do not want to end the Union, merely modify it
IT'S time. Time for a change. Time to move on. This is the last column from this writer which will appear in this position in this paper. A new and extremely challenging role on the business desk awaits.Sadly, it means no time for the glorious self-indulgence of expressing a weekly opinion on the affairs of the nation. The world of politics is a continuously fascinating one. There is always something new. Political parties take power and always, in the end, lose it. Politicians' fortunes ebb and flow. Plots and conspiracies abound. Policies evolve and change.Over time, the decisions made by our elected representatives really do "make a difference", a phrase politicians use frequently, to the lives of the poor, long-suffering voters whose interests they are supposed to represent. Politics matters. And having spent many years at both Westminster and Holyrood as a reporter – and worked, albeit for only a year, on the "dark side" as a special adviser to former First Minister Henry McLeish – politics had become like a drug.
