I looked at our players mumbling their way through the national anthem and realised they didn’t really care about playing for England. Because they don’t really know what England is. And truth be told, neither do I. When I was their age it was crystal clear.
FBI arrests child porn defendant at court
A Novato school bus driver fighting child pornography charges in Marin was arrested at the county courthouse Wednesday on a federal warrant in a related case, authorities said. Remsen McGinnis Benedict, 52, was arrested by the FBI outside the courtroom where he was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing. Benedict was booked into Marin County Jail pending a federal court hearing Thursday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco. Authorities said any federal indictments in the case would not be unsealed until Benedict appears in court on Thursday. Downloading or distributing child pornography over the Internet is a federal crime. Benedict's defense attorney, George Boisseau of Santa Rosa, could not be reached for comment. Benedict, a bus driver for the Novato Unified School District and a former den leader for Cub Scout Pack 186 in Novato, was arrested last summer after police received a tip through a vigilante Web site called corporatesexoffenders.com.

Tyson Elementary School Leads State In Character Education
Editor's Note: Springdale changes as the city demographics change. Nowhere is the change more evident than in the public schools. Over the next couple of weeks, The Morning News will look at the "personality" of each Springdale elementary school.SPRINGDALE -- A sign hanging in the middle of the office at John Tyson Elementary School reads, "Love, tolerance, respect, manners, hard work."The school was one of the first in the state to offer a character education program. In fact, Principal Lola Malone wrote the program still in use."I saw the need," Malone said. "Children were coming with an expectation that was less than I had. They need to be well-disciplined."The program is built on 30 words -- such as respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, citizenship and trustworthiness -- which are learned and reinforced throughout the school year.
For McCain, Momentum That May Be Hard to Stop
He can effectively close out the race against former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney in next week's 21-state GOP showdown. "It gives him real momentum going into Super Tuesday," said Matthew Dowd, who was chief strategist for President Bush's reelection campaign in 2004. "Florida really is the steppingstone." Strategists noted that Romney's tenacity and ability to write a check from his personal fortune to keep his campaign going make him a formidable opponent, but the landscape appears stacked against him -- beginning with the aftershocks from Tuesday's results. Romney will probably receive support from parts of the party's conservative base, which has never warmed to McCain and now has perhaps one final chance to stop him. But McCain will benefit from other developments in Florida.
