Pleasantburg Drive, were charged with armed robbery and attempted armed robbery. Adopt-a-Pet: Wolvie Needs Your Help! Save Email Print
Wolverine was left behind at a local vet's office with his head tilting completely to one side. He was taken to South Bend Animal Care and Control in July of 2007 as a very young kitten. Luckily, he found his way into a loving Paws ‘N Purrs with IMPACT foster home soon after. Wolvie has had many vet visits in the last several months trying to determine the best course of care to end his discomfort. X-rays revealed that at one time he suffered a ruptured eardrum that has since been covered with scar tissue. Several rounds of antibiotics and steroids have been used to try to fight the lingering infection deep in the ear canal. The medications seem to help a little bit, but only for short periods of time. Wolvie often has difficulty when eating and drinking his food as there is drainage into the back of his throat.
Wiscasset Conservation, Historic Boards Sought
An adhoc historic preservation commission received support from Wiscasset selectmen Tuesday to move ahead with plans for formalizing it, and a conservation commission is also under consideration for a vote in June. Both commissions are a recommendation of the new town comprehensive plan that now has both local and state approval for the first time ever, Town Planner Jeff Hinderliter told the board. The ad hoc historic preservation commission the board authorized in September wants to continue meeting to draft an historic preservation ordinance for voters' consideration on the annual town meeting referendum ballot. The ordinance would establish a commission, identify one or more historic districts, determine the tools it will use to protect buildings and sites within the districts, and investigate the benefits of "certified local government" status and/or participation in the Main Street Maine program.
Hairless fakers, take note. Bald is in charge.
Somewhere in America, Stanley Tucci is yelling at his agent. Bruce Willis is crying in the arms of his latest hot young girlfriend, Ben Kingsley is planning some passive resistance and Patrick Stewart is setting his phaser on "stun." Timothy Olyphant plays Agent 47, the bald assassin in the new action movie "Hitman." The controversy? Why have the well-coiffed Olyphant shave his head when there are so many bald actors who are perfect for the role? Casting a haired actor to portray the iconic bald video game character is like hiring one of the Olsen twins to play Mama Cass in a Mamas & the Papas biopic. And it's not the type of thing that the offended parties will just ignore. One thing about bald dudes: Years of dealing with sunburns, razor accidents and hearing bad Mr.
Letters: More questions to consider about assistant superintendent's ...
You are absolutely correct that questions abound following Gilroy Unified School District's personnel action against Mr. Lyons, and I want to know the answers, too. We have precious few financial resources at a time when the state is asking all school districts to slash budgets. How can any one of us justify forking over nine months additional pay to an employee who is clearly no longer working for us? More questions for your list: Is there a bona fide medical necessity for Mr. Lyons to be on medical leave for exactly nine months? Has a valid doctor's excuse been provided to GUSD that would allow the district to place him on paid medical leave to the tune of $120,000? If not, WHY? I find it most suspicious that the medical leave so neatly coincides with the personnel action, and it reeks of something improper.
BERNIE BITS: Rams should not let Bulger play for rest of the season
It's ridiculous that the Rams waited until Friday before scratching quarterback Marc Bulger from the lineup for Sunday's game in Cincinnati. Hasn't Bulger absorbed enough beatings this season? You don't fool around with head injuries. Besides, the Rams are 3-9. They aren't angling for a playoff spot or a winning season. And several months ago they invested $65 million in Bulger in the form of a new contract. Why take the risk of jeopardizing his health, career and the team's investment? Coach Scott Linehan should have gotten Sunday's starter, the inexperienced Brock Berlin, ready to play this week instead of clinging to Bulger. Now that Bulger has been ruled out, Berlin will be thrown into his first NFL game without the benefit of extensive preparation.
Woody: Martz's exit is improvement
Everybody knows (LaDainian Tomlinson) and the Chargers are going to run, but they still do it. The Chargers just run a couple of plays - you know L.T. is going to run the Power-O -- but you've got to stop it." Woody said the Lions offense hasn't been truly committed to the run since the second half of the 2004 season. Rookie running back Kevin Jones rushed for 806 yards in the final eight games -- more than any other running back in the league. "That was my first year and it was the only time that we had a semblance of that. We ran the ball as well as any team in the league," Woody said. "I have no idea why we changed the next year. Maybe it was because we drafted (receiver) Mike Williams and our philosophy changed, I don't know. But we were good at running the ball (in 2004) and we stuck with it.
